Teju is a photographer who randomly one day went blind in one eye and he went to hundreds of doctors as none of them could really find out what was wrong with him and finally he figured out he had a really rare disease that effected young people and he got surgery to fix it. However even though his eye got fixed it changed how he saw the world and therefore how he did photography.

This is the image ive chosen to thoroughly analyse, this is because my first impression of the image is i really like the juxtaposition between the high rise buildings of either flats or maybe offices in the background compared to the kind of run down looking urban building in the foreground. I also really like how dark the tree is compared to how bright that light is either coming from or reflecting off of the building. It looks like the image has been taken facing the right, only because we dont see the main building straight forward it looks like shes walked up to this building and turned right and taken the image to get the other buildings in the back and that its taken from eye level maybe standing on a slight hill. The angle of the view, i would say is quite narrow because she could of stood back and maybe got the edge of the foreground building into shot and more buildings in the back but she didnt, she chose to cut off the main building and part of the background building on the right. The image is taken in portrait to maybe incorporate the height of the lit buildings in the back. Awoiska took the image in black and white making the tone monochrome, she takes all of her images in black and white because she likes the black of the images to create space and for their to be hidden things inside of the dark space, so for example in this if you saw the image from far away youd see the black silhouette of a tree but when you look closer you can see all of the leaf's and branches. The style of this photo is a still life image, taken of urban life with a slight bit of nature in the background. Overall i really like this image and i plan to respond to all of her images using her way of photography, by feeling that instinct to take an image of something and just going on a walk to take images but not knowing of what before you set off.

Image Analysis
This is one of my favourite images i took when responding to Awoiska so i wanted to analyse the photo and see what i can do next time to improve it. The camera angle was taken from eye level looking at the ground, the angle of the view is slightly zoomed in because i wanted to crop out the pavement from most of the image as i wanted to focus on the grass and the details of the strands. I took it in portrait, like i did with all of my other images. Not for any particular reason but i think Awoiska does landscape but i prefer portrait. The image was taken in black and white because Awoiska does all of her photos in monochrome so i thought it was only right i copied that element of her work as its a very key part of her photography. She likes there to be a lot of dark space in her images that if you look at far away you cant really see the detail it just looks like a lot of dark space but once you look closer you see all the hidden parts of the image. I framed the image by zooming in and removing most of the pavement. There wasnt anything in particular i was focused on but i really like how the fresh cut grass was just find of left there. I also liked the lighting, how there was a lot of shadows disrupting the image. I also really like how the sun was coming from behind the lamppost and therefore caused this quite harsh straight black line going through the middle of the image. The style of the image is a still life photo, because i didnt move anything from how i first saw it i only framed it so it would include what i wanted it to. Overall i think to make this image look more like Awoiskas i could of made the lighting more dark to create that ominous feeling that she achieves in her images. |
